DON DANTE CARRARO

Born on March 29, 1958, in Pianiga (Venice, Italy), Rev. Dante Carraro graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Padua, with a specialization in Cardiology.

He also obtained a diploma in Health Services Management and Human Resources and Management from the University of Nkozi, Uganda.

After becoming a priest in 1991, from 1994 to 2008 he served as assistant director of Doctors with Africa CUAMM, an NGO which has been operating for more than 60 years in the field international health cooperation, with a specific focus on Sub-Saharian Africa.

In July 2008 he became Director of Doctors with Africa CUAMM; as a consequence, in order to supervise and coordinate the NGO's projects, he has often travelled around the 7 African countries where the organization is present.

He is in charge of directing and coordinating the 38 most important cooperation projects and about one hundred smaller support projects through which CUAMM helps 15 hospitals, 26 sanitary districts (engaging in activities of public health, maternal and child care, the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, training), 3 rehabilitation centers, 5 nursing schools and 2 universities, with a staff of 168 people working on the ground in Angola, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Sierra Leone and South Sudan.

Rev. Dante Carraro has been speaker and moderator in many conferences in Africa and Europe related to the themes of health cooperation in the developing countries, and to the activities and projects of Doctors with Africa CUAMM.

On May 2012, the SIMM (Italian Society of Doctors Managers) awarded him with the Prize "Doctor Manager of the Year".
